On hot days, machine components also start to sweat. Strongly varying temperatures during the machining process can impair workpiece quality. Reiden Technik AG has developed a new solution for its machines.

During the hot summer months, many machining companies have the problem of strongly varying temperatures in the production halls. This means that the constant quality of the machined workpieces can no longer be guaranteed, as the machine components heat up and expand. The problem would be largely solved with an air-conditioned environment, but this is often not possible for various reasons such as costs or given structural circumstances.

Active temperature control in the machine bed and column

A new development from the Swiss machine manufacturer Reiden Technik AG provides a remedy in the basic version of the RX12, RX14 and RX18. These series have now been further developed with active temperature control of the machine bed and the machine column. The machine is thus no longer significantly subject to ambient temperature fluctuations, resulting in constant geometry and accuracy of the system. This is made possible by 300 meters of cast-in cooling lines in Hydropol composite material. A cooling medium constantly flows through the lines. The closed system can be operated permanently, even overnight or during downtimes, thanks to the energy-optimized cooling unit, which has an approximate power consumption of 1-2.5 kW per hour.

In addition to cooling the two basic components, heat-generating machine components such as the milling head, the feed motors, the gears of the rotary axes and the guides have already been constantly adapted to the ambient temperature or permanently cooled via the cooling system. Together with the latest development, these measures now guarantee the machinist an even higher, continuous basic accuracy of the machine.
